Paras Terezakis
Artistic Director/Choreographer
“Terezakis' work is testimony to the restrictions and forced choices one makes in life. He choreographs people confined within themselves, showing the resulting change in attitude as one moves forward to internalize rules which Terezakis himself considers not representative of real needs and desires.”
- Avgi Newspaper, Athens
“Terezakis strongly realizes or reveals himself in his dance dramas but the theme never centres on simply ego. His is an extraordinary ability.”
– The Georgia Straight, Vancouver
Greek/Canadian choreographer Paras Terezakis began his professional training in his native Greece, where his professional career started in theatre and with Experimental Ballet Athens.
Upon moving to Canada, he studied at Toronto Dance Theatre, York University and Simon Fraser University with many renowned contemporary teachers and choreographers, which included a vast array of styles and methods.
In 1986, Terezakis created Kinesis Dance, a company in which he could work with his particular style of dance vocabulary - a fusion of Mediterranean passion, North American practicality and his own take on the modern dance techniques he has learned over the past twenty years. He is known for creating strong theatricalworks with high production values, strong visual designs and with original music scores.
Terezakis has choreographed more than fourty works and has been the subject of provincial and national television programs. He continues to focus on choreographic composition, workshops, teaching, researching for future creations and dramatic direction: work that has taken him across Canada as well as to the United States, Europe, The Balkans, Central and South America.
